Have you ever had an epiphany after experiencing a seemingly small event? Maybe after watching a 30 second commercial or a Disney movie? I have. 😂 I had a life changing moment after watching the film “Inside Out”. (If you haven’t seen it, you should probably stop everything and go watch it right now.) The movie is based on this premise that our basic emotions control our actions, and our actions control our experiences. When we allow ourselves to be controlled by emotions such as fear, anger, or jealousy, our life experiences also suffer. This is why it’s so important to invest in your own self-development. To get curious about the emotions you are feeling every single day. 😄 😢 😠 By paying closer attention to your emotions, you develop greater self-awareness. And this self-awareness is key to "stopping the cycle". The one where you keep telling yourself, “Everything will be better when...” …I finally hit 10k (or 20k or 50k) months. …I lose the extra 20 pounds. …I have more free time to invest in my relationships. The problem with this pattern is: A) You’re always looking towards the future and then feeling disappointed when you don’t get to where you want to be. B) When you finally reach your goal, you don’t take time to recognize your accomplishment because you’re already focused on the next target. Suddenly, you wake up on your 40th birthday and think to yourself: “Who am I, and how did I even get here?” 🤷♀️ But it doesn’t have to be this way. You can change your future by investing in yourself and your growth right now. And this investment will look different depending on what season of life you’re in. It could mean getting more intentional with your goals. It could mean expanding your inner circle. Maybe it means leaving a toxic relationship. The good news is: you’re not meant to do it alone. If you really want to make a change in your life, then look for support from someone who knows what it takes to make the change happen. Someone who is able to meet you where you are, and help you figure out what’s needed to get to where you want to go next. Someone who can help you identify what emotions (or stories) are controlling your actions (or decisions) and therefore determining your experiences (aka quality of life). Are you a morning person? Or do you find yourself hitting the snooze button, throwing the covers over your head and asking the sun to stop rising for five more minutes. ⏰ The answer to whether or not you’re the “rise and shine” type is less about the time of day and more about the way you approach it. What if I told you that you don’t need a morning routine in order to be successful? 🔥 Shocking, I know. It seems like everywhere you look, there’s another self-development guru preaching about the importance of having the perfectly choreographed morning routine. You read headlines like: “Morning Routine Habits of the Most Successful People” “The Ultimate Morning Routine to Increase Your Productivity” “The Morning Routine for Maximum Creativity” You can’t help but feel like everyone else’s mornings seem to be 10x more productive than yours. 😫 But the problem with mornings isn’t you. It’s the false promise that there’s a perfect way to start the day I’m going to let you in on a little secret: morning routines are NOT for me. 🤭 The idea of waking up to a list of tasks I HAVE to do in order to start my day just doesn’t sit well with me. In fact, morning routines make me resent mornings and make me feel guilty. That’s not how I want to start my day (or live my life). My new “morning routine” is simple: I wake up and create space to do whatever feels good in the moment. I don’t set my alarm for 5am every day. I don’t feel pressured to meditate, journal, workout, read a book and drink my green juice first thing in the morning. I wake up with a smile on my face and start my day however I want to. I believe you should be intentional about how you approach your morning, and tap into how you’re feeling (or how you want to feel) that day. You can start by asking the following questions… 1. What do I want morning routines to accomplish? How do I want to show up? Personally, I want to approach my morning in a way that grounds me and connects me to my highest self. I want to use it to set the foundation for the person I want to be that day. 2. What do I want to do in the morning? How do I want to feel? Rather than creating a list of tasks I have to do, I simply create the time and space for what I need on that given day. What will fill up my cup and help me reach my goal of staying grounded and connecting with my highest self? Sometimes that looks like a meditation and workout. Sometimes it’s as simple as sipping on a hot cup of coffee from my balcony overlooking the lake. 3. What is my intention today? What do I need? I take the time to tune in to my mind and body and do whatever I feel inspired to do in that moment. It’s important for me to have the flexibility to adapt to my changing wants and needs, based on the intention I am setting for myself that day. Ultimately, your morning is the perfect opportunity to improve the relationship you have with yourself. Rather than feeling the need to parent yourself, or be your own boss, with a to-do list and rigid framework to follow, it’s about trusting that you will do what’s right for you in the moment. Listen to your body, pay attention to your emotions and be your own best friend. Lean into your day with ease and let the abundance flow. Want more tips like this? Watch this IGTV episode 👇 xoxo,
